9 in 10 students show interest in Biomedical Science industry: survey

91% of the students want to learn more about BMS sector
Students across tertiary institutions and specialisations share similar interests in the growing industry of Biomedical Science (BMS). 9 in 10 students are eager to find out more about the trends and opportunities available in this industry.
This is one of the findings from the BioBiz 2009 Survey facilitated by the NUS Career Centre, NTU School of Biological Sciences (SBS) and NTU School of Chemical and Bioengineering (SCBE).
Not leaving their options to chance, 450 students from National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) participated in the survey in early February. The survey received overwhelming responses from a diverse group of students majoring in Biological Sciences, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmacy and more.
Despite their enthusiasm to learn more, the survey findings revealed that students have found difficulty in reaching sources of information. The general concensus is that there is a lack of career-related information for fresh graduates available. In addition, the students reflected that there is a lack of opportunity for tertiary students to interact with the industry professionals.
The BioBiz 2009 conference will provide students with the chance to hear from the experts on the latest developments and diverse opportunities in the Biomedical Science industry. As part to showcase the spectrum of the industry and as part to cater to the students’ interests, the panels featured this year are namely, Medical Technology Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, IP and Regulatory Affairs, and Research Commercialisation. In addition, the lunchtime networking session will be a platform for students to interact with the industry professionals.
